Cold January

This past month we have been getting back into the swing of things after the holidays. Patrick was sick most of December and it seems like I was sick most of January, but it looks like we are both back to normal. Hopefully it'll stay this way!

Patrick has had some exciting news this month. He started a job working with children at a private dental practice out in a suburb. He will work there every other Saturday. He also has been appointed Chief Resident for his program at school. I'm really proud of his hard work and success!

Other than that, nothing too exciting has been going on with us. We've been spending a lot of time resting and recovering from being sick. However, we are still meeting with our marrieds small group every Thursday night. We are doing a book study on the book, Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas. And on MLK Day, we went to a ski slope right outside of the city and we enjoyed a day skiing. Patrick and I definitely needed and wanted to get some practice in before we go on a big trip.

This week is Chicago's Restaurant Week and last night we went with a group of friends to Kenzie's Chophouse. We had a great four course meal for a really good price. Patrick and I also have plans to go to another place on Monday for dinner. Restaurant Week is a really neat way to get to visit really nice places without having to pay so much. Even before this week we have been going out to eat pretty often. There are just so many amazing restaurants in this city, it's so difficult to stay home and eat.
Penny's Noodle Shop- one of our faves
Piece Brewery and Pizzeria- Some of the best thin crust in Chicago!
I've talked about the cold weather we've had in Chicago, but this month we definitely experienced a whole other level of cold. We've had a lot of days in the teens and single digits with a real feel of below zero. As long as you dress for it appropriately, it really isn't too bad. Patrick loves it and I do my best not to complain too much! :) But finally, last Friday, we broke the record of consecutive days in Chicago without measurable snow! We had almost two inches. Today we have a couple of inches of snow on the ground as well. It's so nice having snow with this cold weather. It makes the cold worth it!
